Great to hear you are back in business! I premuse the metal fragment was a fault from factory? I hope you're get rid of the jittering. I'm still about to move to my new house... so starting my project still has to be postponed...
cheers!

good to hear your back in business, we are all still working away with our builds and challenges well out of the gearbox, motor and vfd the motor was the cheapest part there so at least thats something! the 160mm lever has been a proven length with the motor and gearbox size you have so its hard to how that was the issue but looking forward to seeing if you can get things running right, good luck.

I would start by drastically decrease the acceleration and see what will happen.
It would be good to know what accel./decel. values has to be chosen in order to get something between 03G - 1G
Otherwise, could you please measure your backlash this way?:
vimeo.com/163623858
On this sample item you can notice a big backlash, almost 1mm, which is about 20arcmin, and still, I didn't notice any problems.
10 arcmin is 0,16deg.
The radius of my lever is 160mm resulting in a circumference of aprox. 1000mm.
1000x0.16. / 360 = 0,44mm
Also, did you tried to invert the sensors? Take one from the motor without issue.
good luck

Yesterday I finally had some time to start up the sim slowly.. I had to do it slowly 1 VFD at a time as I have had the sensors removed and probably turned them a bit. But after 45 minutes off fiddling I had my sim back up standing at 50%\. This was the first time I after one motor blown and taking out a VFD, so I was a bit cautious, ut eventually the sim was there in all it's glory.. The other thing that was changed is that I had removed 40 mm of the lever length..
So it was time to bump up the speeds from 5% to 50% , on a PID of 15 0 0 .. Slowly moving the platform up and down.. it felt quite stable.. Now time to start iracing and BFF..Now I am in unbelieve!!! Holy smoke.. the trembling is gone. it moves smooth as butter!!!!
I now have a fully working sim that moves nicely, still a slight grainy feeling in the front, but no more shaking around. No more worries that the platform would fail at a certain point.. I was a poroud owner of something that looked interesting, but now I am the proud owner of a simulator..
To all you guys that are planning to build one.. hang in there, eventually it will pay off !!!
Now it's time to tune it up and try to get the best feel for the oculus!!

Great to hear that! And great that you find the right lever length ;-) Hopefully i can start building somewhere in november.... hopefully sooner. I will start collecting parts earlier naturally ;-) So if you're ok with that i know to find you, probable to prevent to much inventing i will copy much of youre stuff, if you don't mind... Cheers!

You're welcome. Not sure if this is THE lever length but in my case it is sol much better!!! But I went from 180 to 140mm (150mm should be ok too, but I gambled on the fact that I will run it with an oculus so the movements need to be more short and hard instead of sweeping long ones!! (well that is my idea and butt feeling, at least I am not getting a weird feeling in my stomach now :-))

Good to see something moving at last!,
It sounds like you have the same pot jitter problem I'm having?

Good to see something moving at last!, It sounds like you have the same pot jitter problem I'm having? yep I have.. but it isn't moving the levers.. So I don't mind for now..I have the A13 at 1% and it has no issues while running so for no I don't mind.. and it is not always . just when slightly off, and when running I don't hear anything :-)

Looking back at the video's I see that motions looks short and hard, but with the oculus it all feels completely different.. When I would have used smooth motion I would have a nasty feeling in my stomach.. With BFF you start in a holding position and with a switch I will raise it to the running position.. This is something you hardly feel when you have the rift on..
With the rift of the motion is completely different experienced.. It is quite weird to see how the brain works!!! With or without rift is so much different in the feeling of the motion!!! BTW this was Iracing.. Tomorrow I will try PCars on 1.3 runtime.. :-) and try to raise the P and speed..

my pot jitter never moved the levers, maybe im obsessing over it to much. what worries me is that it cant do much good to the motors or vfds over continuous use. anyway i will change the cable on other 4 of my motors tomorrow and report how it goes, other than pot jitter my levers are all working fine and smooth.
yes very wierd with VR wouldnt suprise me if tuning the platform to good feeling in VR looks totally off on camera.
