Hello, I am planning to build, or at least try to build, a stewart platform for fly DCS simulations. AMC1280 looks like the second to no one choice forme. However, I am still struggling about the mechanical design as I could find enough information about advantage and dis between a rotaty design and design using linear actuators.
I realized, most of commercial simulator use linear actuators, and hobbiest most likely apply rotary design with a servo. Interestingly , I found in this forum, more people using rotary than linear actuators. I will be very grateful, if anyone could explain the reasoning behind choosing any one of these two design. Thanks very much.

Cost and load capability. The more you load up a linear actuator, the slower its response. That is my take on it.

First we all use the amc1280usb which was designed from Thanos ! At the beginning the design was done for ac motors and Thanos continued to develop his card to be able to control others motors like synchron motors équiped with encoder etc ... And now the amc1280 can control many motors and Thanos found linear actuators and designed a control board for them. Personnally i think linear actuators the best way to go .

Hi everyone I plan to build a 6dof stewart platform as well. At the moment I am in contact with Long Shine Ltd. in China. Does anyone know this company? They build simulators at cheap prices around $2500. They are using linear actuators with a platform payload of 250kg. Also included are two 3in1-drivers for 220V-AC-motors and a not spezified motion controller... Is that a possible option? On Thanos youtube-channel I found this video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=pY9JPkqJD-QIt looks like one of the platforms distributed by Long Shine Ltd. Has everyone more informations about the chinese jailbreak? Thanks for help Greetings from switzerland a.j. whirlybird
