Here is a photo of recent modifications to my Sim's 737 Main Instrument Panel (MIP) Here are a couple of photos of my Tormach CNC machines. These tools are a great help to building the Sim and 6dof Motion Platform.

Humm USA the country where your dreams come through !! I'm a little bit jealous for all your stuff to machine by yourself what you need ;-) But anyway a big applause for your work .Eventhough you have all we could dream , it's not given to anyone to achieve to a great result .Really impressive workshop ;-)

Thanks for the comments Vic. You are quite right about that despite the tools we use, it is still very difficult sometimes to achieve a good final result. I have certainly learned that with this 6dof motion platform project, not to mention the 737-800 Sim. Integrating these two into a whole system package will be challenging indeed.
By the way... I watched a couple of your recent videos. Very cool! It looks like you have done some nice work with the motion cues. Keep up the good work.

A project of epic proportions!
One things for sure, running the sim for flight at slower speeds will make tuning things much easier,
I'm really struggling with mine to get things fast, smooth and responsive enough to work well with VR and racing sims.
Amazing stuff, thanks for the update and keep em coming!.

Mike Thanks Mike ;-) For the motion cues I have to thank HeXpod who achieved to improve the 6dof plugin for Xsim.He made that the plugin is now more understable with the values you have to write in the plugin and second the last but not the least , the result is now a perfect flat surge and sway movements ;-). Maybe in the near future I will test bff motion cues but as I'm quiet happy now it's difficult to change.I would love now test a vr solution but now it's still quiet expensive and my pc certainly not powerfull enough . I maybe try to use a smartphone with a vr headset , I watched some tutorials on the web !

Here is a photo of the 6dof Motion Platform finished "Anchor System" integrated into the Sim room concrete slab. Each of these three sections allows for anchoring two of the motor/gearbox units. As I mentioned in the previous post, each anchor contains within it a steel weldment that the motor/gearbox units bolt to. The second photo show progress to date on the motor/gearbox mounting plates. Each mounting plate is 22" x 22" x 3/4" thick steel. These plates sit on top of a 3/4" natural rubber pad. This system allow the mounting plates to act as a damper during 6dof motion platform operation. I'm ready now to wire the AMC1280usb controller and related interface. Once this is done, I will continue with testing, then begin building the final version of the Upper Platform, then the Flight Deck for the 737-800 Sim. Attachments:

Now that the Motor/Gearbox mounting plates are completed and installed to the Anchor system, I am in the process of re-assembling the Position Sensors and interface cabling to the AMC1280usb controller. This will give me an opportunity to determine final location for the controller box and cable routing to the VFD box that is central to the 6dof motion platform. I will also clean up the wiring and its routing. Once all this is completed, I will re-install the prototype Upper Platform (constructed from wood), and then consider final design on the steel structure for the Upper Platform. At this point, I will be able to conduct some additional testing of the 6dof motion platform as interfaced to the 737-800 Sim software. Once that baseline testing is confirmed, then I will proceed to fabricate the Upper Platform. Regards, Mike Attachments:

Dream workshop and dream sim (I struggle to get a car in my garage :-)), good to see the big sim back on track and I look forward to following its continuing progress.

I finally settled on a layout configuration for the AMC1280usb Controller, which is now physically attached to the VFD box. This arrangement will sit as shown in the photo below, central to the 6dof motion platform. This configuration will help to make the various wiring harness runs a bit shorter and more organized. The gearbox output shaft Position Sensors are shown in the photo below. The Sensor assembly is mechanically connected to a flexible (blue) tab that allow some "rotational flexing" to eliminate mechanical stress on the Sensor unit. It also allows for easy adjustment of the sensor position, hence Lever position. Next, I will finish the wiring harness setup, then run an initial test. Regards, Mike

Hi Guys, Today was a big day my 6dof motion platform project. I finished all the wiring and harnessing, and completed the interface testing to the flight Sim. As I mentioned, I am using Prepar3D for the simulator, with Sim-Avionics for the 737-800 flight model. Along with these programs, I am using FlightIllusion gauges, ActiveSky Next, BFF Shaker, and BFF 6dof motion software. I am pleased that all these are working correctly with the 6dof motion platform now fully operational in its new location within the Sim room. I am now doing a test flight from San Diego, Ca KSAN to Denver, CO KDEN. It's fun to watch the 6dof motion platform do its thing... It sure feels good to have everything operational again. This completes my goal for this stage of the project to re-assembly the Sim and 6dof Motion Platform as it was before relocating everything in the new Sim room. Now I can proceed to work on the remaining final assemblies to include the steel Upper Platform and Sim Flight Deck. After that, I will move the static Sim to its final location on top of the motion platform, which will be a major milestone. Below are a few photos of the completed layout thus far, with associated wire harnessing for the 6dof motion platform. Regards, Mike

Congrats looks great, until you've built one of these yourself its hard to appreciate the amount of time and work that goes into this, you make it look easy!

Hi Mike
I am new member in this forum, I would say a rich forum! Thanks for your posts, and congrate for you nice project. I am 737 sim builder too since 2007. It works very well, but before developping a shell I would like to start design and development of 6DOF motion platform. It seems I am in the same step where you were 3 or 4 years ago.
My configuration is based on FS9, Project Magenta, Pmdg for flight model.
Anyway, I am starting the project, but I am novice in this matter of motion. So I am new member in this forum to beneficiate and share the different members' experiences. Your experience is very nice and powerfull for me . So can you advise me and give any information can help me to start this project, as bill of material (softwares, hardware, geared motors, etc .. ), prerequisites, etc ..
Thanks for you support and help

Hello Mike Quickly I would like to present myself and my project: I am living in Paris, France, and for a very long time where I began in 2007 to build a home simulator Boeing 737. It is a lot of time spent, but the lack of room and the financial aspect more other constraints make that this project drags and take time.. But there is no need to hurry it is for the pleasure . For personal and financial reasons, and as I had no place for my sim, I work on it very small part time but it works very well. I am right now at the stage where I have to begin to think the 6DOF motion platform before going farther to design and to build the shell. The shell design will be conditionned by the 6dOF constraints. I thus register myself on this forum and placed order for Thanos’s new on 2017 AMC1280USB controller boards “. Only, I am there that at the beginning to collect the documentation, experiences and materials, softwares, hardwares needed.. I plan at first to build a mokup model to test (as you did perfectly) connected to my current simulator: My sim is working with 5 PC, on which run for the one that I call the server FS9 and the flight aircraft PMDG, on the others run the various modules of Project Magenta, the flight. 1/At first time, I ordered the Thanos’s controller boards. 2/For the software I am hesitating between X-Sim and Ian BFF’s softwares 3/I am going to order 6 servos for the model and according controller 4/to build the mokup I will appreciate if you can help by advice for issues 2 – 3 and 4 and I would thank you I am also trying to identify the necessary materials and components for the real scale 1 platform… as you built. Knowing that it is going to support a payload approximately of some 700 or 800 kg (1500 to 1700 lbs), I wonder which engines and reducers I have to get . If you have an idea which I can discuss with you, she will be welcome and which I can add to what I read in this forum I will appreciate it. As you are moved forward your project as well as Sim737 and 6 DOF, do you have a wiring draw or diagram geared motors (types I understood that they are three-phases), inverters, braking resistors , boards of Thanos… etc .. Thanks for help and advice You Did a great stuff !! Cheers Milou am.hachadi @ gmail.com
