Hi all, I have some news on the hardware side of the Amc1280usb controller. I designed and being in the process of building a few pieces of new shields that might do life easier for the controller fans. First is the 6DOF adapter for TB6612FNG 1A drivers that will allow building a model 6dof platform using very small DC motors like the pololu #1118 228:1 plastic gearmotor with offset output and use on it the same sensor that would be using on the actual size platform. This adapter plugs right on the amc1280usb like a shield allowing easy connections directly to the motors and the feedback sensors. More details soon. Then I created a signal conditioner that will allow connection of the 6DOF ext board v3 to big servo drives that require -11v to +11v unidirectional signals. No external PSU will be required for the higher voltage signals. This shield again will just plug on top of the existing 6DOF ext v3 board with no other modifications. Thanks Thanos

WOW!! I'm planning to build a bigger motion simulator using liner actuator + servo motors + driver. This is definitely what I'm looking for! Can't wait Here are some pics of my new platform design.

I can imagine it would look quite spectacular looking simulator Are you planning to sell it? I hope it can be assembled easily if you are selling it overseas.

Clyevo: Glad you like this new design. But it is still just a prototype design, I haven't decide whether make it as a fixed platform or not. Will share more pics soon Keep in touch~~

Just received the PCBs for the signal conditioner! Looking forward to do some assembly as soon is possible. I love working with smt parts!! Making so much smaller boards! Thanks Thanos

Another shield ready (1A motor shield): Thanks Thanos is that the extension board for AC motor as well stack on top amc1280? you should have them made the enclosure, cheap one like The 1A motor drivers are plugin on top of the amc1280usb board, and the -+11v signal conditioner plugs on top of the 6DOF ext board v3. I wish I had a way to redesign everything to be able to stack them but it would take lots of work and time. Also plastic case looks good, but don't provide any protection from EMF noise from the motors. Best solution for box should be a grounded metal enclosure with noise isolated audio cables for the analog signals. Thanks Thanos

I managed to test all 6 small DC motors on my 1A motor driver shield. All powered by USB!! Its fine for no load, as it draws only 450mA max, but as soon I connect the platform parts I may need more power from external PSU, or use second USB port for additional 500mA... Thanks Thanos

The output is very linear, making it ideal for use in linear actuator servo motors. In the photos and video below I used it in 2DOF mode to monitor easier the position in relation of the voltage output: Thanks Thanos

I also did some thermal measurements for the DC-DC converter to make sure it can handle the current for all 6 amplifier! It looks great! Thanks Thanos

Hi Thanos , been awhile but im still dreaming and accumualting all the bits for my dream project, as you may remember i have already bought and early version of the AMC128USB Controller ( Still have to do the Noise fix mod but at least i have been able to load the latest firmware) the board is used to test Ian's BFF software and using my 6DOF Rc servo simulator, so very happy that its all working , can you email me the Price and delivery info for the new shields as im interested in adding these to my goodies kit :-)
Im still dreaming of making a small 6DOF (150Kgs Load carrying weight) based on a DC Motor Linear actuator very much like @carbons example as the next phase ,but now i may well need to do a lot more research, but in my goal for relativly in-expensive ( if there is such a thing ) Actuator , driven by Stepper motor, Ballscrew, and Optical encoder for feedback,
I have looked at various picture and diagrams and you mentioned the possibility of implementing Optical encoders Functionality in the AMC128USB , is this still a viable option.
one last thing and please bare with me if this information has already been posted somewhere here, where can i find an updated manual for the AMC128USB which covers all the new functionality , I am deaf so even looking at the youtube videos, i miss some of the key points, things like what are the 4 Cursor control button on the AMC used for and when are they active , is there another Wiring diagram for say the Dimension engineering Sabertooth ( DC controllers) i have seen the One for the MDO3 ( i Have them as well LOL ) but could do with an basic idiots guide to wiring these up for testing ,
if this has already been covered then can someone point me to the thread please .. My Current 6DOF project is a work in progress but based on 24VDc Electric Wheelchair motors/ Gearboxes,Sabertooth Comntrollers and Optical encoders , this is really just to get me familiar with the mechanics and electronics involved , so far the basic function works ( but as Tim from tooltime TV show would say Need MORE POWER ) lol ... Somewher in teh future with all this aquired equipment and knowledge i'll make the transition to AC , but for now im dabbling at the Other end od the spectrum and dreaming as well as learning as much as i can about the Big stuff...
Cheers Thanos 10+ years and counting but hey its all great stuff and AC gear prices are getting friendly :-)
