Yeah my gaming machine is fairly beastly, I was planning to use a separate computer just for running the motion. I try to absolutely minimize programs running on the gaming machine to maximize performance (especially critical with VR) and minimize the chances of crashes.
My gaming machine is: Core i7 4790K OC'd to 4.5GHZ Nvidia GTX1080 G1 Gaming 16GB RAM Samsung EVO SSD's
My streaming machine (for compressing video and running other software for the livestream so I don't have to run anything extra on the gaming machine) is: Core i7 920 GTX 670 SSC 8GB RAM
I also have an old E6300 machine not in use and an old AMD tri-core that is a bit tired but runs.

If it were me id be inclined to put the motion software on the main PC to begin with to simplify things, then once you have everything tuned you can think about moving it to a separate PC.
That way you can see if it causes any additional lag without it being lost in all the other parts of the puzzle during initial set up.

Thanks PaulG100, that sounds like an excellent option. I didn't think about the fact that using a separate computer might cause additional lag and apparently for VR that's an even bigger problem than with screens. I'll run it on the gaming box at least to start, and experiment later with a separate machine.
I'm getting ready to build the enclosure for the inverters (Hitachi WJ200-007SF) so I'm looking at them for the first time. The manual has a LOT of stuff in it that is way over my head, what do I need to know? I see they are set up for small fans on the heat sinks, do we not need to put fans on them?
Just FYI my VFD/electronics cabinet will be ventilated with a low volume fan.

Two things... 1. I was running a dual setup and there was some lag. Not sure if it was the computer or just the nature of windows and the protocol stack. So you will definitely what to start out on just one. 2. I would build the upper platform out of Aluminum. Check out 80/20 T-Slotted

you shouldn't need additional fans on the vfd's.
I have the vfd fans set to temp controlled and ive yet to hear them kick in yet, although I havnt run the sim for extended periods of time.

Good to hear on the vfd's. That site looks awesome @ga-dawg, I'm going to take a good look!

Out shipping atm and want to buy my wore. Can I get confirmation for electrical panel to vfd's I need three conductors (plus ground) vs 2 conductors plus ground?
EDIT: Guess this is what happens when I type on a phone! That should have read:
Out shopping at the moment and want to buy my wire. Can I get confirmation from electrical panel to vfd's I need three conductors (plus ground) vs 2 conductors plus ground?

amc to vfd = 4 wires
vfd to motor = 3 wires + ground
All shielded

Thanks paulg100. I meant the power wire coming from the main breaker panel to the VFD's. Would be 3+1 if it needs a neutral line, 2+1 if it doesn't.
I bought 3+1, now that I'm at an actual computer I'll check and see if I need that or can go exchange it for standard 2 wire (plus 1 ground).

Greetings again folks! The work done in the days since my last post has been on the cockpit rather than the motion equipment, hence the lack of updates.
I have a quick question for you relative to the "park" position of the motion sim. When the motion sim is not being used and more importantly when using the cockpit without motion) can it be parked in the lowest position rather than at mid stroke? I assume it can, but need to be sure.
Updates coming fairly soon! Still have work to do on the cockpit and my custom left hand space flight "throttle stick" before I complete the wiring.

You can park the platform lower using the 6DOF position parameter in the LCD menu. Thanks Thanos

Hey guys! Today I installed the mounts for my inverters, and I'm just waiting until I drill the holes for mounting the AMC1280USB, 6DOF extension board, and 24v power supply so I can clean up all the dust and whatnot before putting the components into the cabinet.
I'm all set to wire the motors to the inverters, then it's on to wiring up the Thanos boards. Is the most comprehensive, complete, and up to date guide on wiring up the Thanos boards and Hitachi inverters still the one on Thanos blog? I know Stevant had mentioned there having been some apparent changes to the Hitachi inverters and some things being different from Thanos blog as a result?
I'm getting close to movement! Right now the top brace/step assembly for the gearboxes/motors is off for paint, which is drying as I type this. That also needs to be off for the crank arms to rotate the full 360 degrees for auto calibration so the plan is to get things wired up and run the calibration before I reinstall that assembly.
What is the procedure for the physical adjustment of the position sensors? I hate to keep asking these type questions but all the information seems scattered and makes it hard to find what I'm looking for at any given point in time without spending hours digging through the forums and the blogs.
